Medical Assistant (MA) Journey Recovery Center
Reports to the Practice Manager or Team Leader, the Medical Assistant provides clinical support to the Physician and mid-level providers. The Medical Assistant guides patients as directed by the providers and ensures compliance with OSHA, CLIA, and HIPAA regulations, completing all duties vital to the business operations.

Regular, Full-time – 40 hours per week. This role does not include nights, holidays, or weekends.
Duties and Responsibilities- Escort patients to exam rooms, interview patients, and measure vital signs including weight, blood pressure, pulse, and temperature, documenting all information in the patient chart.
- Document patient history and provide clear direction to patients on exam procedures, addressing concerns and documenting appropriately.
- Prepare patients for exams and assist providers during examinations.
- Perform nursing procedures under provider supervision.
- Collect and prepare laboratory specimens and perform basic laboratory tests.
- Prepare and administer medications as directed by the provider.
- Ensure all information is complete and accurate in the patient chart.
- Ensure completion of all revenue‑cycle forms (e.g., verification/clarification of orders, waiver forms for non‑covered services).
- Maintain adequate supplies in exam rooms and workstations.
- Clean and disinfect exam rooms and equipment, reporting malfunctions to the supervisor.
- Maintain logs and required checks for refrigerators, emergency medications, expired medications, oxygen, and cold sterilization fluid changes.
- Assist with patient requests, take telephone messages, and provide feedback to patients, providers, and pharmacies.
- Triage and process messages from patients and front‑office staff to providers.
- Complete referral processes, outpatient test scheduling, and pre‑certification.
- File and distribute patient information promptly and accurately.
- Interact with the Central Billing Office as needed to resolve patient issues.
- Follow scribing guidelines if working as a scribe.
- Other duties as assigned by the Clinical Coordinator or Practice Manager.
- Obtain vital signs (manual blood pressure, pulse, respirations, temperature).
- Assist providers with exams and procedures.
- Administer injections and immunizations.
- Perform EKG and other essential laboratory procedures.
- Collect patient samples (fingerstick, throat/nose swabs, urine).
- Answer and triage patient phone calls and questions.
Minimum:
High School Diploma or GED. Knowledge of Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint is required.
- One year of experience as an MA or CNA.
- Completion of an MA Externship.
- Completion of an SEP MA Internship.
- Completion of an EMT Certification Program.
- Degree in Health or Biological Sciences inclusive of hands‑on clinical patient care activities.
Preferred:
An approved credential such as CCMA, CMA, RMA, ARMA, or EMT.
