Job Purpose

As a Classical Grammar Faculty Scholar, you will form young scholars in the “grammar” of learning—foundational knowledge, habits, and virtues that support lifelong wisdom and eloquence. Your teaching will model intellectual curiosity and upright character while cultivating academic mastery and moral imagination, preparing scholars for the next stages of the Trivium and beyond.

Instruction / Education Responsibilities

  • Program Implementation:
    Plan and implement a classical course aligned with CSUSA’s philosophy, securing a foundation in the Trivium while cultivating prudence, fortitude, temperance, and justice.
  • Lesson Planning:
    Develop purposeful plans that incorporate explicit instruction, imitation, recitation, narration, copywork, dictation, and guided discussion.
  • Scholar Engagement:
    Present subject matter in ways that maximize learning opportunities and invite scholars to engage deeply with content.
  • Assessment:
    Conduct regular diagnostics, evaluate learning, and design activities that reinforce both mastery and virtue.
  • Support for Learning Challenges:
    Refer students with suspected challenges to support personnel and provide tailored lessons.
  • Field Trips:
    Organize and lead experiential learning activities that apply virtue in real‑world settings.
  • State Assessments:
    Prepare scholars for state‑required assessments, emphasizing mastery, perseverance, and integrity.
  • Curriculum Revision:
    Participate in selecting texts and resources that align with the CSUSA Classical model.

Classroom Environment Conducive to Learning

  • Create an atmosphere that matches scholars’ interests and maturity, fostering a love for learning and virtue.
  • Build positive relationships, demonstrating patience, firmness, and nurturing support.
  • Keep the classroom clean, orderly, and safe, displaying student work and implementing conduct policies that honor dignity and responsibility.
  • Maintain clear rules of behavior, applying them fairly in accordance with CSUSA policies.

Instructional Planning

  • Lesson Development:
    Align plans with guidelines, weave in the Beacons of Virtue, and foster both intellectual growth and virtuous habits.
  • Activity Planning:
    Design activities that meet objectives and address diverse needs.
  • Preparation:
    Demonstrate thorough preparation for assigned classes.
  • Collaborative Planning:
    Participate in curriculum planning with staff.
  • IEP Incorporation:
    Integrate diagnostic data and IEP needs into instruction.
  • Resource Protection:
    Safeguard supplies and equipment.

School / Community Relations

  • Cooperative Relationships:
    Communicate effectively with parents and guardians to support scholars’ growth.
  • Positive Communication:
    Maintain consistent, positive communication with families and staff.
  • Confidentiality:
    Uphold confidentiality regarding scholar records.
  • Extracurricular Participation:
    Engage in activities that strengthen community and model virtue.
