Medical Technologist & Lab Technician, Clinical Research
Performs blood and body fluid testing and does cultures for diagnostic and research procedures. This is primarily, complete blood counts (CBC’s), clinical chemistries, and bacterial cultures. Does work in a Biosafety Level 2 and Level 3 facility. Works with a broad range of pathogens implicated in human and animal disease, as well as emerging diseases, some of which may be select agents.
Correlates and interprets data based on knowledge of techniques, principles and instruments. Investigates problems, performs corrective and preventative maintenance of equipment, prepares reagents, instructs new employees and students, performs data entry, and interpretation of test results. Must be willing to work in both Biosafety Level 2 and Biosafety Level 3 laboratories. This includes wearing the provided personal protective equipment as well as participating in, and being compliant with, the TNBRC drug and alcohol policy.
This position requires minimal weekend and holiday coverage.
- Proficiency with common laboratory equipment and techniques.
- Strong personal and communication (oral and written) skills.
- Knowledge of various software programs (including presentation packages, spreadsheets and advanced word processing).
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to multitask.
- Familiarity with computers.
Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in an accredited Medical Technology Program.
- Completion of an accredited Medical Technologist Program.
- Certification as a Medical Technologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists(ASCP) or American Association of Bioanalyts (AAB).
- Two or more years experience with tests commonly used in the clinical laboratory (hematology, chemistry and microbiology) preferred.
This position is classified as "non-exempt, hourly" and is assigned to pay grade 25
