Medical Technologist (MT/MLT/MLS) - St. Tammany West - PRN
Summary
Performs blood and body fluid testing and cultures for diagnostic and research procedures. Primarily, complete blood counts (CBC’s), clinical chemistries, and bacterial cultures. Works in Biosafety Level 2 and Level 3 facilities, handling a broad range of pathogens, including select agents. Correlates and interprets data, maintains equipment, prepares reagents, instructs new employees and students, performs data entry, and interprets test results.
Must be willing to work in both Biosafety Level 2 and Biosafety Level 3 laboratories and comply with the TNBRC drug and alcohol policy. Requires minimal weekend and holiday coverage.
- Proficiency with common laboratory equipment and techniques.
- Strong personal and communication (oral and written) skills.
- Knowledge of various software programs (including presentation packages, spreadsheets and advanced word processing).
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to multitask.
- Familiarity with computers.
- Bachelor’s Degree in an accredited Medical Technology Program.
- Completion of an accredited Medical Technologist Program.
- Certification as a Medical Technologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or American Association of Bioanalysts (AAB).
- Two or more years experience with tests commonly used in the clinical laboratory (hematology, chemistry and microbiology) preferred.
