Job SummaryThe endoscopy technologist reports to the endoscopy supervisor and/or the director. The technologist demonstrates technical abilities in the performance of assigned duties and works well with all members of the medical and nursing staff.
Work ShiftScheduled weekly hours: 40 hours.
Work shift:
0630 - 1500, Monday–Friday. The role requires a minimum of 6 call shifts in a 6‑six‑week schedule with one full weekend of call. Monday–Friday call starts at 1500 and ends the next morning urday and Sunday call starts at 0700 and ends the next morning at 0700.
- Assists with setting up equipment prior to endoscopic procedures according to standard instructions; reports any equipment or supply problems to the charge nurse, supervisor or director.
- Assists with preparing the patient for the procedure, attaching the patient to monitors, applying O2 as needed.
- Assists the physician during endoscopic procedures as directed.
- Troubleshoots problems with endoscopes.
- Follows established guidelines for cleaning, disinfecting, and sterilization of scopes and accessories after procedures.
- Performs daily maintenance checks of endoscopes.
- Maintains log for scope processing, cleaning systems and high‑level disinfection.
- Assists in maintaining physical and environmental care between and after procedures.
- Assists with maintenance of stock supplies and equipment, inventory and ordering as needed. Informs the charge nurse, supervisor, or director of any needed equipment or supplies and maintains PAR levels for all areas of patient care.
- Stocks rooms daily.
- Assists in obtaining carts, films, supplies, and equipment as needed.
- Reports to the endoscopy area daily on arrival.
- Accepts on‑call duties as directed, available in‑house within 30 minutes when on call.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Preferred 2 years of experience as an endoscopy technologist.
- Good communication and critical thinking skills with the ability to problem‑solve.
- Current BLS certifications through an International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) proctored course, including a manikin check‑off.
Must possess good physical health. Musculoskeletal requirements include standing, sitting or walking for long periods, lifting at least 50 pounds, and working in a moderate level of noise. Physical effort: constant (67-100%) reaching, handling, talking, hearing, seeing; frequently (34-66%) lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, stooping, crouching; occasionally (1-33%) climbing stairs or ladders.
