Emergency Medical Responder

Provide appropriate, efficient and timely pre‑hospital basic life support care and transport of the sick and injured in accordance with local, state, national and Acadian Ambulance standards of practice.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Administers prompt and efficient basic life support care within the limits of licensure or certification and in accordance with approved protocols prior to transport.
- Provides careful handling of the patient to and from the ambulance.
- Provides safe and efficient transport of the patient in the ambulance to the medical facility.
- Provides a safe and efficient transfer of patient and patient care information to the receiving personnel at the destination.
- Conducts a careful examination of the patient for signs and symptoms of illness/injury and assists other medical personnel as necessary.
- Conducts regular unit inventory and equipment testing to ensure all equipment is present, clean and in proper working order.
- Responsible for the full knowledge of the ambulance's basic life support equipment and its proper use at all times.
- Documents and reports all needed repairs to the proper maintenance departments and supervisors.
- Opens and operates the ambulance safely, following company driving guidelines; ensures safety of occupants.
- Follows FCC regulations when communicating via electronic communications equipment.
- Attends all mandatory meetings as scheduled.
- Completes assigned station and station grounds duties.
- Orders supplies and equipment from Central Supply to replenish station and ambulance inventories.
- Completes assigned ambulance duties (e.g., washing, waxing, cleaning).
- Completes all required company reports and logs.
- Acts as preceptor for new employees or EMR students, as directed.
- Ensures all duties align with Emergency Medical Responder job descriptions.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- State certification as an Emergency Medical Responder as required by Louisiana.
- Current CPR certification (American Heart Association).
- Valid state‑issued driver’s license (Louisiana Class “D” or equivalent).
- Ability to read, write, and communicate professionally with employees and managers.
- Knowledge of company protocols, operational procedures, and safety policies.
- Ability to drive large vehicles in normal and adverse conditions.
- Maintain social, ethical, and organizational norms.
- Motivated, sense of ownership of job tasks and results.
- A sense of urgency for all work performed.
- Ability to work under pressure of meeting strict deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Orientation to job requirements.
- Ability to lift, move, and position patients up to 100 lbs.
- Climb stairs, steps, and unsecured surfaces; operate in hazardous environments.
- Perform CPR and other lifesaving maneuvers; maintain fine motor skills for bandaging and splinting.
- Require correctable vision and hearing sufficient for ambulance operation and emergency care.
- Operate under intense environmental conditions (wet, humid, cold, heat, debris, noise).
- Work at heights, with heavy equipment, and in close proximity to vehicles or machinery.
- EMT – Emergency Medical Technician (if applicable).
- EMT – Paramedic.
