Summary of the JobSurgical Technologists/LPN function as members of the surgical team in the role of a scrub person. They work under the supervision of a RN to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive and surgical procedures, maximizing patient safety and sterile technique with the application of AORN and professional standards. The Surgical Technologist is responsible for preparing and handling the instrumentation, supplies, and devices necessary for the surgical procedure.
Minimum Qualifications- Graduate of an accredited school of Surgical Technology.
- LPN Licensure (if applicable).
- One (1) year experience preferred or St. Tammany Health System experience through the Surgical Tech Educational affiliate program.
- Acute Care OR preferred.
- Current BLS certification through any International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) provided course (e.g., Ochsner Health System, American Heart Association, American Red Cross). The ILCOR course must include a manikin check‑off.
- Call is required according to unit standards.
- Good communication skills and ability to make decisions.
- Must be available in‑house within 30 minutes when on call.
- Surgical Technology Certification (CST) preferred.
- Must possess good physical health. Requires standing, sitting or walking for long periods of time.
- Lifting at least 50 pounds is required.
- Must be able to work with a moderate level of noise.
- Constant (67%-100%): reaching, handling/feeling, talking, hearing, seeing.
- Frequently (34%-66%): none.
- Occasionally (1%-33%): lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, stooping, crouching.
