Overview

The Probation/Parole Officer 2
* is responsible for professional probation and parole work of average difficulty, supervising a caseload of probationers and/or parolees. This class is flexibly staffed, differing from Officer 1 (entry‑level work) and from Officer 3 (leadership responsibilities).

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and maintain offenders’ records and reports, identify criminal activities and background information, and prepare narrative reports to meet special requests by the parole board.
  • Conduct searches of offender residences, vehicles, and persons as required, and interview probationers and parolees regularly to evaluate progress in accomplishing goals and maintaining terms specified in their probation contracts and rehabilitation plans.
  • Conduct pre‑hearing togic pre‑release investigations and testify in court regarding offenders’ backgrounds and recommended sentences and conditions as required by policy.
  • Act as liaison with judges, court personnel, law enforcement and other agencies concerned with the probation/parole program.
  • Interact positively with employees and offenders to foster a respectful and harmonious working environment.
  • Request arrest warrants for non‑compliance by offenders as required by policy and procedures, and utilize compiled offender information to determine proper steps for treatment.
  • Handle offender complaints and grievances quickly and professionally.
  • Investigate significant offender and staff related events to determine whether incident reports are required, and assist offenders in decision‑making processes.
  • Develop appropriate sanctions for offender non‑compliance with conditions of release and develop a transitional accountability plan informing offenders of required office visits, restitution payments, or educational and employment stipulations.
  • Monitor offenders under supervision to ensure compliance with release requirements set by policy and procedures.
Qualifications

Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and at least one year of full‑time professional experience in probation/parole, counseling, social work, investigative, or legal fields. One year of related professional experience may replace the bachelor's degree on a year‑for‑year basis. Graduate course credit in specified fields may substitute a maximum of one year of experience.

Special Qualifications

Required:

  • Be willing to qualify with, carry, and use assigned weapons.
  • Be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
  • .bc U.S. citizen.
  • Have a good moral character as determined by investigation.
  • Complete a criminal history disclosure form and release all records involving criminal history.
  • Supply a fingerprint sample as prescribed by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
  • No felony conviction or domestic assault conviction; no dishonorable discharge from the U.S. armed forces.
  • Pass a physical examination administered by a licensed physician consistent with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
  • Pass a psychological evaluation administered by a licensed mental health professional consistent with the ADA.
  • Submit to and pass a pre‑employment screening test for illegal drugs.
  • Possess Siempre a valid motor vehicle operator’s license at the time of réelle appointment.
  • Upon appointment, successfully complete all prescribed courses of instruction at the Tennessee Correction Academy and any required online training.
