Job Summary:The Machine Operator I is responsible for safely and efficiently operating assigned machinery to produce quality products according to specifications. This role involves monitoring machine performance, performing basic troubleshooting, and ensuring that all production materials are handled properly and recorded accurately.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Measurement & Setup
- Read and interpret a tape measure accurately.
- Review and understand production requirements from the Copy Folder (27v2).
- Verify and prepare machine setup based on production specifications.
- Remove roll wrap and roll core before setup.
- Locate and transport rolls to the machine using appropriate handling equipment.
- Remove excess paper from spent cores.
- Verify chuck size and remove bung plug as needed.
- Confirm correct unwind direction for material feed.
- Remove and retain roll TAPPI information for documentation.
- Replace spent rolls with new rolls using control systems.
- Record roll weights and stage next rolls for continuous operation.
- Inspect and monitor print quality throughout the run.
- Check downlines and ensure consistent perforation accuracy.
- Verify registration lines are aligned correctly.
- Inspect chipboard, headtape, and polywrap for defects or inconsistencies.
- Communicate any quality issues immediately to the supervisor or quality team
- Stage and prepare chipboard for production.
- Change chipboard as required during runs.
- Use carrier bars properly for feeding materials.
- Replace and adjust suckers as needed.
- Set and verify correct chipboard length.
- Feed chipboard into the machine and clear any jams promptly and safely.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Follow all company safety guidelines and lockout/tagout procedures.
- Complete required production and quality documentation accurately.
- Communicate with maintenance or leadership regarding machine issues or downtime.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Basic math and measurement skills required.
- Ability to read and interpret job specifications and quality standards.
- Previous machine operation experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
