The RoleAs a Cemetery Grounds & Operations Technician, you’ll be responsible for:
- Maintaining clean, safe, and well‑kept cemetery grounds
- Preparing gravesites and supporting burial services with professionalism
- Operating and maintaining equipment and tools
- Ensuring the cemetery always reflects respect, order, and care
- Mow, trim, plant, edge, and maintain landscaped areas
- Keep roads, pathways, and plots safe and presentable
- Maintain irrigation, drainage, and general infrastructure
- Level and realign markers and headstones
- Keep the shop and yard organized and functional
- Perform snow and ice removal when needed
- Prepare and restore gravesites accurately and respectfully
- Assist with interments, disinterments, and monument placements
- Mark grave locations and ensure sites meet standards before and after services
- Restore turf (sod or seed) following burials
- Operate and maintain cemetery equipment and vehicles
- Perform routine maintenance and log all work
- Track granite and vault inventory accurately
- Coordinate schedules and needs with the Sales Manager
- Communicate equipment, supply, and operational issues promptly
- Work collaboratively with other grounds team members
- Interact respectfully with families, visitors, and funeral professionals
- Answer basic questions and maintain a calm, professional presence
- You like working with your hands and seeing the results of your work
- You’re dependable—people don’t have to chase you down
- You notice details others miss
- You’re comfortable working outdoors in all seasons
- You understand that professionalism matters, even when no one is watching
- Ability to perform physical labor (lifting 50+ lbs, bending, kneeling, walking long distances), with or without reasonable accommodation
- Comfort working outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Experience operating landscaping or light construction equipment
- Basic computer skills (email, simple data entry, digital signatures)
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail
- Professional demeanor around grieving families
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (job‑related use)
- Personal truck that can tow a trailer (vehicle reimbursement discussed in interview)
- Cemetery, funeral home, landscaping, or grounds maintenance experience
- Equipment or landscaping certifications
- Bilingual skills relevant to the community served
- Stable, year‑round work
- Clear expectations—no guessing games
- Equipment and processes that actually work
- Leadership that respects the role and the people doing it
- A job with purpose, not just a paycheck
$16.00 - $20.00 per hour
