ResponsibilitiesSuccessful candidate will perform installations and repairs of water mains, services, blow-offs, and all related water distribution appurtenances. Also contributes to various maintenance programs related to water system and District facilities or vehicles. The job is very physically demanding. Operates construction‑related equipment such as a dump truck, excavator, backhoe, air compressor, jack hammer, hand tools, etc.
Minimum Experience/EducationRequires a high school diploma or GED. Driving is an essential function of this position; a valid Washington State driver’s license is required and the following experience:
- Grade 1: 0–3 years relevant, hands‑on water utility experience. Performs basic labor and assists with repairs and installations while developing proficiency in tool use, equipment operation, repair and installation procedures, and safe work practices. Traffic Control required within 6 months of employment. Washington State Class A commercial driver’s license with Combination, Tanker, and Air‑Brake endorsements required within 24 months.
- Grade 2: 3–5 years related experience. Demonstrates working knowledge of water system repair and installation procedures and can operate essential tools and equipment with guidance as needed. Traffic Control and Competent Person certifications required. A valid Washington State Class A commercial driver’s license with Combination, Tanker, and Air‑Brake endorsements required within 24 months.
- Grade 3: 5+ years water utility experience. Skilled and demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, repair, and install water system infrastructure components, with proficiency in operating excavation equipment, power tools, and specialty utility equipment. Traffic Control, Competent Person, and AC Pipe certifications, a valid Washington State and Class A commercial driver’s license with Combination, Tanker, and Air‑Brake endorsements preferred.
