Based in Cardiff, you’ll join our collaborative Transport Planning team within the Mid-West Cities, Planning and Design Group. The team works across major development, regeneration and infrastructure projects throughout Wales, the UK and internationally, delivering integrated transport and development planning solutions that support thriving communities and sustainable growth.

The Opportunity We are looking for a Senior Transport Planner to join our growing Cardiff team. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of high-profile projects, from major regeneration schemes, new towns and strategic housing developments to nationally significant infrastructure projects across transport, energy, water and highways.

You will play a key role in delivering transport planning solutions that support development, placemaking and wider policy objectives. Working closely with clients, local authorities and multidisciplinary teams, you will develop and justify transport strategies, provide technical advice, and help shape sustainable transport outcomes from concept through to delivery.

Your responsibilities will include:

Managing transport planning projects and coordinating the transport elements of multidisciplinary projects.

Developing transport strategies, assessments, business cases and appraisal work for a wide range of development and infrastructure projects.

Leading or supporting public transport, bus planning and active travel studies, strategy development and infrastructure projects.

Building trusted relationships with clients, local authorities and key stakeholders.

Managing project programmes, quality and commercial performance, including supporting fee proposals and negotiations.

Contributing to business development, work-winning activities and bid submissions.

Supporting and mentoring junior colleagues, helping to develop technical capability across the team.

Projects currently being delivered by the team include major schemes such as Cardiff Arena, Cardiff Central, Bristol Temple Quarter, Cardiff Parkway, strategic housing developments, new towns and nationally significant infrastructure projects across the UK.At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective in which we encourage individuality to thrive. Is this role right for you?

We are looking for people who have:

Proven experience delivering transport planning projects across development, infrastructure, public transport and active travel programmes.

Strong knowledge of transport planning guidance and appraisal frameworks, including TAG and/or WelTAG.Experience developing and negotiating transport strategies with local authorities and other stakeholdersA degree in a relevant discipline and either Chartered status or a commitment to working towards professional accreditation.
