Description

General Purpose
Performs a variety of clerical, administrative and technical work in receiving and dispatching routine and emergency information. Maintains official records related to the Communications Center and Jail. Assists in the administration of the standard operating policies and procedures and practices of the Coweta Police Department. Responsible for the care and custody of prisoners while they are in jail in accordance with Oklahoma Jail Standards.

Responsible for the staff within their assignment.
Under general direction, plans, organizes, directs and administers the operation and activities of the Communications Center in dispatching emergency services. Supervises and coordinates the work of subordinate staff and performs related duties as required.

Examples of Duties Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Works on shifts performing the duties as the Communications Supervisor and related duties associated with the dispatching of emergency services.
  • Shall set an example for all subordinates for high ethical standards, courtesy and diligence of service.
  • Uses sound judgement in deciding course of action; expected to handle difficult or emergency situations with or without assistance.
  • Maintains availability by radio or telephone for consultation on major emergencies.
  • Shall maintain a harmonious relationship within the Communications Center, the Police Department, other law enforcement agencies and personnel and the members of the public.
  • Shall maintain proper discipline of all assigned personnel and have the authority to administer appropriate disciplinary action for violations of the City’s administrative policy, departmental policy and procedures, Twenty One Standards of Conduct, department’s mission statement, oath of office or lawful directives or practices.
  • Shall suspend a member of the Communications Center from duty whose conduct poses an immediate threat to the good order and discipline of the Coweta Police Department or to the general welfare and safety of the public. The Police Chief or designee shall be immediately notified of such actions.
  • Shall promptly transmit all legitimate directives of higher authority, assuring proper consistent interpretation and compliance of those directives of their subordinates.
  • Shall perform such supervisory duties as necessary and assigned, including the planning, organizing and directing the activities of their subordinates.
  • Shall assist in the development of departmental programs, including training, improved job performance, public confidence and efficient use of personnel, equipment and facilities.
  • Shall submit to the Chief such reports as are required to accurately reflect problems, solutions, services and activities of the Communications Center.
  • Shall authorize all vacation leave when appropriately requested by employees within their assigned authorization.
  • Monitors telephones, radios, E-911 equipment, OLETS terminals, mapping system, CADS, and computers associated with Communications Center. Answers calls for service and ascertains the nature of the call, gathers all necessary information to transmit or relay.
  • Assist in the booking, searches and release of prisoners.
  • Performs security patrols in the jail area.
  • Maintains log on radio and telephone communications and location of personnel and equipment in the event of an emergency situation. Maintains on going contact with responding personnel and keeps that personnel informed of all incoming pertinent information.
  • Maintains Communications Center work area and jail in a clean and orderly fashion.
  • Reviews a variety of related reports prepared by subordinate personnel.
  • Carries out duties in conformance with Federal, State, County, and City laws and ordinances.
Peripheral Duties
  • Schedules, conducts and participates in meetings.
  • Serves as a member of various employee committees as needed.
  • Maintains departmental equipment, supplies, and facilities.
Typical Qualifications Education and Experience Guidelines
  • (A) Associates Degree.
  • (B) Minimum of two (2) years work experience in a law enforcement agency or an E-911 Emergency Operations Center.
