This is a high-profile contract opportunity to step into a critical delivery role within a large, complex public-sector finance environment - supporting the acceleration of annual accounts timetables and acting as a centre of expertise for statutory reporting and audit.

🧠 What you’ll be doing

• Leading preparation and delivery of audited annual financial statements
• Acting as the technical accounting authority, drafting and reviewing accounting papers
• Managing and bringing forward year-end and audit timetables
• Reviewing the General Ledger ahead of close (reconciliations, balance sheet assurance)
• Supporting adoption of new accounting standards (including IFRS 17)
• Leading audit engagement - preparing evidence, resolving issues, building credibility with auditors
• Driving process improvements and efficiencies across accounts production
• Supporting and guiding a geographically dispersed finance team

🎯 What we’re looking for

• Recent technical financial accounting experience (within the last 12 months)
• Strong knowledge of IFRS and central government frameworks (FReM, CBG, Managing Public Money)
• Proven delivery of Annual Report & Accounts in a large public-sector organisation
• Confident writing technical accounting papers
• Comfortable analysing complex GL data and improving processes
• Able to explain financial implications clearly to non-finance stakeholders
• Experience working with Oracle / SOP or similar finance systems
