Do you want to take the next step in your Biomedical Science career within a specialist Haematology & Transfusion service?
We're recruiting on behalf of Southern Health and Social Care Trust for a Band 6 Specialist Biomedical Scientist on an initial 3-month contract
.
This role will support both Core and Out of Hours services across Craigavon Area Hospital and Daisy Hill Hospital
, working within Haematology and/or Blood Transfusion laboratories.
- Initial core hours for training, moving to a 24/7 shift rotation, including nights and weekends.
- Work across both hospital sites (travel required).
- Operate as part of the core laboratory team and as a lone worker during out-of-hours shifts.
- Provide specialist Haematology and Blood Transfusion support in line with UKTLC safety standards.
- Ensure full compliance with laboratory governance, quality standards, and transfusion safety requirements.
To ensure compliance with UKTLC (2023) standards for autonomous practice, all candidates must meet the following:
- HCPC Registration - Current and valid as a Biomedical Scientist.
- Specialist Qualification -
- IBMS Specialist Diploma (Haematology with Hospital Transfusion Practice)
OR - BBTS Specialist Certificate.
Candidates without a completed specialist portfolio or BBTS certification will not be considered for this Band 6 role.
- IBMS Specialist Diploma (Haematology with Hospital Transfusion Practice)
- UKTLC Compliance - Demonstrable recent competency within a UK Transfusion laboratory environment to meet lone-working and shift participation safety standards.
Haematology
- Extensive experience with Sysmex XN-series analysers and track systems.
- Film reading proficiency.
Coagulation
- Extensive experience with ACL TOP analysers.
Transfusion
- Full competency using Bio-Rad IH-500 or IH-1000 automation.
- Manual gel card techniques.
LIMS
- Proficiency in Win Path.
