Job Introduction

Healthy outcomes start with positive patient experiences. As a Linen Porter at Sodexo in Ipswich Hospital, you will be providing a comprehensive Portering service across the site, including general Portering duties and covering for dedicated departmental porters as required (full training will be provided). The postholder will deliver an efficient, high-quality service that meets scheduled tasks, ad hoc requests, and emergency response times.

Responsibilities include the collection of laundry from wards and departments throughout the site.

What you’ll do
  • Perform all laundry Portering duties as directed.
  • Complete urgent and scheduled tasks on time, following procedures.
  • Follow hygiene and infection control standards.
  • Comply with Health & Safety regulations.
  • Attend required training and annual appraisals.
  • Keep equipment clean and report faults promptly.
  • Wear issued uniform and PPE; report any damage.
  • Support during emergencies, work flexibly (including Bank Holidays), complete shift records, and carry out reasonable additional duties.
What you bring
  • Basic numeracy and literacy skills; able to follow procedures.
  • Knowledge of workplace Health & Safety.
  • Previous experience in a service environment.
  • Good standard of written and spoken English.
  • Clear communication with colleagues, managers, patients and the public.
  • Customer care training (desirable).
  • Trustworthy and reliable.
  • Calm under pressure; able to meet response times.
  • Tidy appearance.
  • Courteous and able to maintain confidentiality.
  • Respectful of privacy and dignity.
  • Flexible to meet service needs.
  • Physically fit to lift and move patients and equipment in line with manual handling training.
  • Able to undertake mortuary duties as required.
  • Desirable:
    Health service experience.
  • Customer care training.
