About the Role
Our client is seeking a highly experienced Geotechnical Engineer to join their specialized team in Kimberley , focusing on critical mining-related projects. This role involves assessing ground conditions, designing mine slopes, foundations for heavy industrial equipment, and managing geotechnical risks associated with mining operations. You will play a vital role in ensuring the safety, stability, and efficiency of mining infrastructure in the Northern Cape region.
The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in geotechnical challenges specific to mining environments and a strong commitment to implementing best practices in a demanding, resource-focused industry.
- Conduct detailed geotechnical investigations for mine infrastructure, including open pits and underground operations.
- Perform stability analyses for open pit slopes, tailings dams, and mine waste facilities.
- Design foundations for heavy machinery, processing plants, and support structures.
- Assess and manage geotechnical risks associated with seismicity, ground support, and dewatering.
- Prepare comprehensive geotechnical reports and provide expert recommendations for mine design and operation.
- Liaise with mining engineers, geologists, and project management teams to integrate geotechnical considerations.
- Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering or a related field.
- Professional registration with ECSA (Pr.Eng).
- Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in geotechnical engineering , with significant experience in the mining sector.
- Proven expertise in slope stability analysis, rock mechanics, and foundation design for mining applications.
- Experience with geotechnical software used in mining (e.g., Rocscience suite, Maptek Vulcan).
- Strong understanding of the unique geotechnical challenges faced in mining environments.
