Collections Specialist

Description We are looking for a Collections Specialist to support accounts receivable efforts for a Contract position based in Rhode Island. This role focuses on maintaining healthy cash flow by engaging with customers, resolving outstanding balances, and promoting timely payment across commercial and consumer accounts. The ideal candidate brings strong follow-up skills, sound judgment, and the ability to handle billing concerns effectively while maintaining positive client relationships.

Responsibilities:

- Manage collection activities for commercial and consumer accounts by contacting customers regarding past-due balances and securing payment commitments.

- Review account status, aging reports, and payment history to identify overdue accounts and determine appropriate next steps.

- Investigate billing questions and work with internal partners to resolve discrepancies that may delay payment.

- Document conversations, promised payment dates, dispute details, and collection outcomes accurately within account records.

- Follow established collection procedures to reduce outstanding receivables while maintaining a detail-oriented customer experience.

- Monitor credit-related collection issues and escalate complex or high-risk accounts when additional action is needed.

- Prepare updates on collection progress, unresolved balances, and account trends for management review. Requirements - Experience handling collections for commercial, consumer, or mixed account portfolios.

- Working knowledge of credit and collections practices, including account follow-up and payment resolution.

- Ability to manage billing collection matters and respond effectively to customer questions or disputes.

- Strong verbal and written communication skills with a detail-oriented and service-oriented approach.

- Solid organizational skills with the ability to track multiple accounts and follow through on deadlines.

- Proficiency in documenting account activity accurately and maintaining detailed collection records.

- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions within established collection guidelines.
