Job title: Accounts Senior
Reporting to: Manager / Senior Manager
Hours: Full time Mon‑Fri 9am‑5.30pm (37.5 hours per week)
Location: Crawley
Purpose of the RoleAs an Accounts Senior you will take a lead role in financial reporting, tax preparation, bookkeeping, VAT return preparation, and continue to develop real‑world accounting practices whilst being supported by senior members of the team. You will assist with the direct supervision and training of more junior staff and work with senior management and the wider team to receive structured training that supports your career progression at Affinia.
Accountabilities- Assist our portfolio holders in delivering a broad range of accounting services to clients while maintaining exceptional customer service.
- Support Assistant Managers, Managers and Senior Managers on a portfolio of clients.
- Perform low‑level review of junior members’ work and assist with:
- Preparation of year‑end statutory accounts for sole traders, partnerships, LLPs, charities and limited companies under FRS 102, SORP and IFRS.
- Preparation of group consolidated financial statements and workings.
- Preparation of corporation tax returns and initial review of draft corporation tax computations prepared by junior members.
- Review simple and non‑complex VAT returns.
- Liaise with clients and respond to queries professionally.
- Keep up to date with changes in accounting regulations and financial laws.
- Prepare and process invoices, expenses and payments.
- Collaborate with other service lines within the group.
- Assist junior members in accounts and bookkeeping activities.
- Assist directors and managers with ad‑hoc projects.
- Train and mentor junior members, providing technical guidance on simple accounting concepts.
- Prepare monthly or quarterly management accounts and VAT returns.
- Assist clients with queries.
- Additional responsibilities as identified in association with the expectations of the role.
- Full opportunity to study and gain a professional qualification.
- Strong IT/Microsoft skills.
- Regular use of CCH, Sage, Quick Books, Xero preferred (full training provided).
- Near completion of professional studies, qualified by experience or ACA/ACCA/AAT Level 4.
- Minimum of 5 GCSEs (Level 6 and above), including Maths and English language.
- A‑Levels (or equivalent) advantageous, especially in Maths and English.
- A degree in Accounting, Business, Finance or Data Science advantageous but not essential.
- Ability to respond and be reactive to shifting priorities at short notice.
- Clear written and spoken communication.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to multitask under pressure and mentor others.
