PurposeStatement
The Maintenance Technician’s role is to ensure continuous effective freezing and frozen storage of food products and ingredient materials, as well as cooling of the physical plant buildings, by operating, maintaining, and repairing all plant ammonia and nitrogen refrigeration systems and associated freezers, air conditioning, and chilled water systems. The scope includes operation, preventive maintenance, mechanical and electrical repair, and contributing to the company’s profit and well‑being by performing tasks safely, efficiently, and cost‑effectively.
KeyAccountabilities and Outcomes
- Keep logs and other information on operating results and problems.
- Analyze information to determine preventive maintenance plans.
- Troubleshoot problems and physically repair equipment.
- Use hand tools and specialty tools to maintain and repair equipment.
- Inspect equipment by sight and sound, reading gauges and other measuring devices to assure optimum operating condition.
- Read equipment manuals, blueprints, and other sources of information to build knowledge and assure appropriate operation and repair.
- Order parts and supplies to maintain or rebuild equipment.
- Maintain all work areas in a clean manner in line with Good Manufacturing Practices.
- Apply all safe work practices and personal safety equipment to assure safety of self and co‑workers.
- Apply GMP requirements for personal hygiene and housekeeping.
- Apply product safety and quality requirements associated with the process at assigned positions.
- Identify problems associated with assigned systems through data collection, downtime tracking, and personal inspection, and determine solutions within training.
- Develop and maintain a good working relationship with team coordinators, managers, and co‑workers.
- Cooperate and show commitment to team goals, attend team meetings, and assist in orienting or training other team members as requested.
- Use electrical, pipe fitting, pneumatics, and hydraulics skills to assist other maintenance technicians as needed.
Minimum 3 years of hands‑on experience maintaining an industrial ammonia refrigeration system, including vacuum systems, screw compressors, blast freezers, storage freezers, condensers, and chilled water cooling systems. Experience with nitrogen flash freezers and Reco or Frigoscandia brand freezers is highly desired. Electrical, pipe fitting, hydraulics, and pneumatics experience is also desired.
Basic business requirements: attendance, punctuality, good work habits, and personal hygiene. Basic education in communication, reading, and arithmetic (high school level). Specific technical training in the theory of ammonia refrigeration and nitrogen freezing systems, and in the mechanical and electrical maintenance of industrial‑sized refrigeration systems, is required. Proficiency in microprocessors, 110/120/220/480‑Volt 3‑phase AC electricity, pipe cutting, threading, fitting, conduit installation, wiring, pneumatics, and hydraulics is expected.
Thoroughly skilled in all aspects of the mechanical and electrical maintenance of industrial food freezing systems.
CompensationAnnual Range/Hourly Rate: $28.00–$35.00. The actual amount may vary based on experience, skills, shift differential, and location.
