Key Responsibilities- Provide guidance to departmental personnel on analysis procedures and correct sample preparation.
- Analyze and interpret data, correcting discrepancies before results are released or issued to clients, ensuring compliance with method requirements.
- Conduct analyses using instrumentation (GC, LC, ICPMS, Protein, Fiber, etc.).
- Utilize instruments such as HPLC, GC, ICP, and ICPMS to determine concentrations of desired components in samples.
- Prepare materials and samples for analysis, including making standards and reagents needed for the procedure.
- Maintain laboratory instruments in working order and perform minor repairs as necessary.
- Investigate customer complaints and nonconformances, determining root causes and corrective actions.
- Maintain knowledge of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) to complete job responsibilities.
- Document observations of departures from the quality system or test procedures in the prescribed complaint system.
- Perform new methods with minimal supervisor input.
- Stay up-to-date with assigned training.
- Maintain equipment records in appropriate software systems and meet housekeeping schedules.
- Wash glassware and prepare samples as needed.
- Support laboratory management in implementing, maintaining, and improving the management system.
- Perform other related tasks as needed.
Basic knowledge of food science aids in analyzing the chemical content of samples. A broad knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and policies is necessary to ensure a safe working environment. Associates degree required;
Bachelors preferred.
- Two to five years of experience.
- General knowledge of chemistry to conduct analyses, obtain correct results, and interpret data.
- Basic knowledge of instrumentation and theory including HPLC, GC, and AA is helpful.
The incumbent works in a laboratory setting with proper lighting and temperature control. Occasional exposure to laboratory fumes, chemicals, and materials will occur. Safety equipment—gloves, laboratory coat, and eyeglasses—may be required depending on the testing process. The incumbent may use the autoclave daily, lift analysis materials up to 50 pounds, stand for extended periods, and detect slight variations in color shades.
Compensation$22-$24 USD per hour.
