Job Summary

Crete Public Schools is seeking a qualified Vocal Music Teacher Grades 6‑8 to serve at Crete Middle School for the 2026‑2027 school year. This half‑time position teaches vocal music and music‑related topics to students in grades 6‑8 and includes collaborative team teaching with another music educator for all middle school choirs.

  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • Nebraska Teaching Certificate with appropriate endorsement
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check
Responsibilities
  • Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures to maintain order among students.
  • Observe and evaluate students’ performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.
  • Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to students.
  • Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students’ varying needs and interests.
  • Instruct through lectures, discussions, and demonstrations in one or more subjects such as English, mathematics, or social studies.
  • Prepare, administer, and grade tests and assignments to evaluate students’ progress.
  • Plan and conduct a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides opportunities for observation, questioning, and investigation.
  • Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities.
  • Assign lessons and correct homework.
  • Enforce all administration policies and rules governing students.
  • Confer with parents, guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators to resolve students’ behavioral and academic problems.
  • Prepare students for later grades by encouraging exploration of learning opportunities and perseverance with challenging tasks.
  • Prepare objectives and outlines for courses of study following curriculum guidelines or state and district requirements.
  • Meet with parents and guardians to discuss progress and determine priorities for resource needs.
  • Guide and counsel students with adjustment or academic problems, or special academic interests.
  • Meet with other professionals to discuss individual students’ needs and progress.
  • Prepare and implement remedial programs for students requiring extra help.
  • Show written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisors.
  • Perform administrative duties such as assisting in school libraries, hall and cafeteria monitoring, and bus loading and unloading.
  • Administer standardized ability and achievement tests and interpret results to determine strengths and areas of need.
  • Organize and supervise games and other recreational activities to promote physical, mental, and social development.
  • Plan and supervise class projects, field trips, visits by guest speakers, and other experiential activities.
  • Select, store, order, issue, and inventory classroom equipment, materials, and supplies.
  • Serve as a role model to all students.
  • Maintain a positive public image that does not negatively affect the District’s reputation.
  • Refrain from conduct that interferes with District operations or student education.
  • Develop and maintain positive professional relationships with staff and administration.
  • Adhere to all District policies, rules, regulations, and supervisory directives.
  • Maintain confidentiality of staff, student, and parent information in accordance with law and District rules.
  • Adhere to the code of ethics of the District and the Nebraska Department of Education (NDE Rule 27).
Other Responsibilities
  • Perform other tasks or duties as assigned by the Superintendent or Principal.
