At First Mid, base salary is one component of our Total Rewards program. Exact compensation is determined by factors such as education, skills, internal equity, and experience. This position offers additional compensation in the form of discretionary short-term incentives (bonus, incentives, and/or commission). - Administer accounts where the Bank acts in the capacity of personal representative of an estate, trustee under will or inter vivos trust agreement, as a court appointed guardian of the estate of minors or incompetents and as an agent under a custody, escrow, safekeeping, or investment management arrangement.
- Where the Bank is personal representative of an estate, cooperate with legal counsel to probate the will within departmental policies and applicable state law; identify, collect, secure, and appraise all assets; handle assets such as real estate and closely held corporations; maintain contact with beneficiaries; cooperate with accountant to determine tax elections; file federal and state tax returns and pay taxes in a timely manner;
ensure all estate liabilities are identified, proven and satisfied; ensure remaining assets are distributed. - Where the Bank acts as trustee, administer the trust in accordance with the will or trust agreement, bank policies and state laws; collect and properly process trust income; distribute or reinvest trust principal; prepare and submit all tax reports and returns in a timely manner.
- Perform statutory duties of a guardian of real and personal property under court directions and governmental agencies, within departmental procedures and policies.
- Perform all duties specified in custodial, escrow, safekeeping or investment management agreements; secure and invest customer’s assets; collect and remits or reinvest income.
- Administer and manage certain personal trusts; build customer satisfaction; oversee activities of other trust officers and department procedures related to personal trusts.
- Cross-sell other Bank services with officers in charge of retail deposits, retail lending, commercial lending, and cash management.
- Participate as a member of various Trust committees as assigned.
- Represent the Bank and provide leadership in key community activities and committees; attend conventions, conferences, and seminars; build relationships with potential referral sources.
- Complete required training associated with job function.
- Perform other duties as assigned; build and maintain strong customer relationships.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Business Administration or equivalent of five plus years of specialized training in trust and investments and overall bank management.
- Thorough knowledge of Company’s product and services.
- High level of analytical skills to conduct trust/investment account analysis and maintain account’s progress in consideration of market trends, interest rates, economic conditions and other factors.
- High level of interpersonal skills to interact with customers and potential customers in a professional manner.
- Adequate knowledge of both internal policies and procedures and the respective state and federal laws and regulations governing departmental functions to ensure performance of individual job duties within the proper control environment.
