The City of Creve Coeur, Missouri, is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Accounting Associate to join our Finance Department. This is a full-time, non-exempt position that offers a competitive salary and an excellent benefits package, including a defined benefit retirement plan, paid vacation, sick leave, holidays, tuition reimbursement, and comprehensive health and dental coverage.
Key Responsibilities- Accounts Payable: Process invoices for payment across multiple departments, including Finance, Administration, and Recreation. Print checks, post transactions to the general ledger, and manage manual check requests outside the normal AP schedule. Collaborate with the Finance Manager for review and approval.
- Customer Service and Compliance: Issue business, vending, and mobile food truck licenses; manage license renewals and ensure compliance with municipal codes. Maintain Dog Park membership records, order new tags, and manage communications with members.
- Cash Handling and Reconciliation: Prepare daily deposits, balance the Finance cash drawer, and verify deposits from other departments. Reconcile cash, check, and credit card transactions with system reports.
- Front Desk Coverage: Assist at the front desk as needed, including answering phones, distributing mail, processing payments, and supporting visitors.
- Administrative Duties: Manage office supply inventory, obtain competitive pricing, and order necessary materials such as letterhead, envelopes, and business cards. Maintain and update the Finance Department’s procedure manual and records in compliance with State Record Retention Guidelines.
- High school diploma or equivalent required;
Associate’s degree in accounting or finance preferred. - Experience in governmental accounting or public sector finance is a plus.
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with a commitment to providing exceptional customer service.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Google Mail, and familiarity with payroll and AP/AR systems.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating accountability and integrity in all tasks.
- Physical requirements include the ability to sit for extended periods, move between desks and service windows, and occasionally lift/move up to 25 pounds.
Consistent and reliable in-office work hours, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, are required. Some periodic evening work may be required.
