About Company:

Controller / Director of Finance About KNOWiNK

Based in St. Louis, KNOWiNK was founded by Scott Leiendecker, a nationally respected election expert. We're a family-owned election security and technology company, built exclusively in America, with more than 150 employees. KNOWiNK has become the largest and most trusted electronic poll book solution in the country.

Our team includes former election administrators, officials, directors, and poll workers who've lived the job themselves — people who understand exactly what's at stake for jurisdictions on election day. That's why we're in a constant state of development: always working to make voting easier, for the people running elections and the people showing up to vote.

About the Role

We're looking for an experienced Controller / Director of Finance to lead our financial operations and reporting. This is a strong fit for a finance professional with a public accounting background who's ready to step into a leadership role at a growing, mission-driven company.

You’ll own the accounting function - general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, and financial statements - while partnering directly with our CFO and executive team on budgets, forecasts, and the financial decisions that shape where KNOWiNK goes next. You’ll also build and maintain the controls that keep us compliant and in command of our numbers, from internal processes to the annual audit.

Key Responsibilities
  • Partner with the CFO on the monthly, quarterly, and annual close - balance sheet, income statement, cash flow statement, and budgets
  • Prepare and present financial statements in accordance with GAAP and company policy
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations and tax filings
  • Work with our PEO and payroll provider, alongside People Operations, to manage and complete payroll

Operational Finance

  • Manage and optimize payroll processing, including multi-state compliance and equity compensation
  • Lead month-end and quarter-end close to keep reporting timely and accurate
  • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and bank reconciliations
  • Implement and maintain strong financial controls and procedures to safeguard company assets
  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff, building a collaborative, high-performing team

Strategic Finance

  • Work with the CFO and Leadership Team on budgeting, forecasting, and the financial analysis behind long-term growth
  • Support Buy Boards, certifications, and other contractual obligations
  • Work with the CFO and COO on banking relationships (line of credit, credit cards) and outside vendor relationships
  • Partner with the CFO on the annual audit and tax filings, and work with external auditors on their recommendations
  • Work with the CFO and COO on third-party vendors and contracts
  • Analyze financial data to flag trends, variances, and opportunities for cost savings
Qualifications

Required

  • 5-10 years of progressive finance experience, with a significant public accounting background
  • Strong experience with audit and tax compliance in a public accounting environment
  • Proven track record managing month-end close, payroll, and financial reporting
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP

Technical Skills

  • Advanced proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems
  • Expert-level Excel skills and financial modeling capabilities
  • Experience with financial reporting and consolidation tools
  • Knowledge of equity compensation, revenue recognition, and complex accounting standards

Preferred — Industry Experience (huge bonus points)

  • Previous experience in a startup or high-growth technology company
  • Software/SaaS industry background

Additional Preferred Skills

  • Experience with financial systems implementations, including migrating to a larger ERP for accounting and inventory
  • Knowledge of international accounting and tax considerations
  • Background in M&A transactions or due diligence
  • Familiarity with Quick Books
What We Offer
  • Competitive salary and equity compensation
  • The opportunity to build and lead a world-class finance organization
  • Direct partnership with the executive leadership team
  • Professional development and growth opportunities
