Overview
Certified Medical Assistant - East Pod at GoHealth Urgent Care. Mercy and GoHealth Urgent Care have partnered to operate urgent care centers across the St. Louis, MO area. GoHealth Urgent Care focuses on an effortless patient experience, a welcoming culture of care, and seamless integration with health systems and communities.
Responsibilities- Assist in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of an urgent care provider.
- Manage check-in and registration, interview patients, and record information in patient charts.
- Measure vital signs and prepare treatment rooms for examination.
- Draw and collect blood samples and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis (as required).
- Register patients, verify insurance, process co-pays, and update medical records.
- Schedule appointments and coordinate specialist referrals; answer patient inquiries and inform staff of patient flow.
- Record medical history, take vitals, escalate critical cases, and perform point-of-care testing (e.g., flu, strep, ECG).
- Perform phlebotomy and administer injections as needed; maintain exam rooms, stock supplies, and manage inventory.
- Scan/update documents, answer phones, handle mail, and perform patient follow-up; maintain reception area.
- Handle opening/closing duties, cash management, and secure the building; conduct daily equipment checks and submit repair tickets.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma required.
- Graduate of Medical Assisting Program preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required at time of hire (American Red Cross or American Heart Association).
- One of the following certifications is required: CCMA, CMA, RMA, NCMA, or NRCMA (verified through respective certifying bodies).
- In lieu of an approved MA certification, LPN or RN or EMT may be accepted at time of hire.
- Basic medical assisting duties, ability to type quickly, basic computer knowledge; proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Detail-oriented, able to rely on experience and judgment, work as part of a team, and communicate effectively with diverse patients.
