Position: Progress Mentor (Adult Learners) (EL792)

Salary: £29,838 to £32,579per annum pro rata (£26,884 to £29,353 per annum)

Hours:

37 hours per week, 38 weeks per year (Monday and Thursday 8:30-17:00, Tuesday and Wednesday 12:30-21:00, Friday 8:30-16:30 (the work pattern can be subject to change)

We are looking for an engaging person to join us as a Progress Mentor foradult learners. This role will mentor and support our caseload of adult learners to ensure that they progress and succeedin their studies.

Have you mentored / coached / supported adultsand know ways to support them?

This could be through working in adult education, careers services, training providers or supported employment settings, for example.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide suitable mentorship and pastoral support to adult learners, including ensuring an effective induction into the College, to develop both a sense of belonging and resilience to succeed;

Support adult learners with suitable interventions which sustain their wellbeing;

Support adult learners in accessing the shared Adult Personal Development platform so that learners can access online tutorials on key personal development activities and themes including Skills development, Employability, British Values, Equality and Diversity and the PREVENT agenda;

Meet with relevant College managers and staff to discuss pastoral issues affecting any adult learners where required and, where necessary, signpost and/or refer learners to more specialist services;

Use dedicated systems to monitor attendance patterns with the cohort and proactively resolve issues; and

Assist with the application process to further and higher education, working in consort with teaching staff to collate references from curriculum teams for adult learners making applications to higher education and/or employment.

Key Person Specification Requirements:

Level 3qualification (or equivalent);

GCSE Grade C (4/5) in English and Maths (or equivalent);

Proven relevant experience of working with adults in a mentorship or support role;

Extensive knowledge of the barriers and challenges that adult learners may encounter throughout their educational journey;

Experience of dealing with pastoral and/or welfare issues that adults can face, including initial wellbeing / mental health concerns;

Good working knowledge of target setting, monitoring and review methods;

Resilient and able to deal professionally with challenging conversations and without becoming emotionally involved;

Ability to work independently and be able to work during some evenings per week;

Excellent organisational and digital literacy skills; and

Enhanced DBS check.
