Reconciliation Subject Matter Expert
Job Description About the role
We’re looking for a Reconciliation Subject Matter Expert – a part‑qualified or qualified finance professional whose real strength is the discipline of reconciliation itself.
You’ll bring rigour, structure and a problem‑solving mindset to making accounts balance and explaining the differences that matter. Your day‑to‑day will centre on supplier and accounts payable reconciliations.
We will be happy to welcome you to our Head Office in Crewe, with a working pattern of Monday to Friday from 8.30 am to 5.30 pm.
What you’ll do- Own the reconciliation of supplier statements against the purchase ledger, matching transactions and clearing down open items
- Apply a structured, investigative approach to resolving discrepancies, unmatched items and unexplained differences
- Act as the subject‑matter expert on reconciliation methodology, setting the standard and advising colleagues
- Produce clear, well‑evidenced reconciliation work papers that stand up to internal and external audit
- Identify root causes behind recurring differences and recommend process or control improvements
- Support the group financial control framework by ensuring balances are reconciled and explained
- A part‑qualified, fully qualified or QBE accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
- Demonstrable expertise in reconciliation – whatever the ledger or context (bank, balance sheet, intercompany, control accounts, AP/AR)
- Exceptional attention to detail and a methodical, analytical approach to resolving differences
- The ability to explain reconciling items clearly to finance and non‑finance colleagues alike
- Comfortable working to month‑end deadlines, on‑site, as part of a team
- Experience with Sage X3
- Exposure to high‑volume or multi‑entity environments
