Job Description
Performs a variety of tasks related to patient admission and reception. Interviews incoming patient or representative and enters information required for admission into computer. Operates multiple telephone line system to answer & direct incoming calls appropriately. Greet all visitors with empathy and respectful attitude. Pleasantly welcome on-site visitors, determine nature of business, and announce visitors to appropriate personnel. Politely and discreetly interview patient or representative to obtain and record name, address, age, religion, persons to notify in case of emergency, attending physician, and individuals or insurance companies responsible for payment of bill.
Thoroughly explain hospital regulations, such as visiting hours, payment of accounts, and schedule of charges. Obtain signed statement from patient to protect hospital’s interests on designated form. May escort patient or arrange for escort to appropriate area. Correctly enter patient admitting information into computer and route to designated areas as needed or required. Promptly answer incoming telephone calls within defined time period, tactfully determine purpose of callers, forward calls to appropriate personnel or department, or voice mail if personnel not available.
Provide callers with address, directions, and other appropriate non-confidential information. Retrieve messages from voice mail and forward to appropriate personnel or department. Maintain visitor logs and issue passes when required. Receive, sort, and distribute mail, maintain and route publication to the Business Office. Perform other clerical duties as requested or needed, including but not limited to filing, photocopying, collating, typing correspondence, scanning, and data entry.
High School diploma or general education degree. Minimum of six months position-related experience. Registered or Certified Medical Assistant.
Preferred Education/ExperienceVocational, technical training or Associates, Bachelor degree. Five (5) or more years of hospital registration experience.
