The Role

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our growing Water & Wastewater team in Croydon, supporting the delivery of a wide range of clean water and wastewater infrastructure projects. Working within a multidisciplinary environment, you will be responsible for developing and delivering mechanical engineering designs from concept through to detailed design and construction support. You will play a key role in designing innovative, sustainable and cost-effective solutions for water treatment works, wastewater treatment works, pumping stations, pipelines and associated infrastructure.

The role offers the opportunity to work on major UK water sector frameworks and contribute to projects that have a positive impact on communities and the environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver mechanical engineering designs for clean water and wastewater projects.
  • Prepare calculations, technical specifications, reports and design deliverables.
  • Undertake equipment selection, including pumps, screens, valves, pipework, sludge handling and treatment systems.
  • Support feasibility studies, outline designs and detailed design stages.
  • Work collaboratively with civil, structural, process, electrical and environmental teams.
  • Participate in design reviews, HAZOPs, constructability reviews and value engineering exercises.
  • Provide technical support during tender, construction and commissioning phases.
  • Liaise with clients, contractors, suppliers and stakeholders throughout project development.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, industry standards and health and safety requirements.
  • Support the development of junior engineers and contribute to technical excellence across the team.
Qualifications, Experience & Skills

Category Essential Preferred

  • Qualifications Degree (BEng/BSc or MEng/MSc) in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline. Working towards, or holding, Incorporated Engineer (IEng) or Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with a recognised professional institution. Chartered Engineer (CEng) status. Postgraduate qualification in Mechanical, Water, Wastewater or Environmental Engineering. Membership of a relevant professional institution.
  • Experience Experience delivering mechanical design solutions within the water and wastewater sector. Knowledge of pumping stations, treatment works, process equipment, pipelines and mechanical installations.
