We are recruiting an experienced Data Centre Shift Engineer / Critical Facilities Engineer to join the engineering team at a major financial-services data centre in Croydon. Working as part of an established shift team, you'll be responsible for the day-to-day operation, maintenance and reliability of critical electrical and mechanical infrastructure, ensuring the facility maintains the highest levels of uptime and resilience.
This is a hands-on engineering position suited to someone with experience in data centres, critical environments or similarly high-availability facilities.
- Operate and maintain critical electrical and mechanical infrastructure within a live data centre.
- Carry out planned preventative and reactive maintenance across:
- HV/LV electrical distribution
- UPS systems
- Generators
- Switchgear
- Critical cooling / HVAC
- CRAC/CRAH systems
- BMS and associated infrastructure
- Monitor plant and equipment to ensure maximum availability and resilience.
- Respond to alarms, faults and critical incidents, escalating where required.
- Carry out fault finding and first-line diagnosis across electrical and mechanical systems.
- Work under site permit-to-work and safe systems of work.
- Support HV/LV switching and isolation activities alongside authorised personnel.
- Review and work in accordance with RAMS, permits and operational procedures.
- Coordinate and supervise specialist subcontractors completing works on site.
- Complete shift reports, maintenance records and technical documentation.
- Ensure all work meets relevant H&S, compliance and operational standards.
- Support continuous improvement and reliability initiatives across the facility.
- Strong electrical or mechanical engineering background with relevant technical qualifications.
- Previous experience within data centres, critical environments or other mission-critical facilities is highly desirable.
- Good knowledge of critical infrastructure including UPS, generators, LV distribution and switch gear.
- Understanding of HV systems would be advantageous.
- Working knowledge of HVAC, cooling systems and BMS.
- Experience with planned and reactive maintenance.
- Strong fault-finding and problem-solving capabilities.
- Good understanding of permits, isolations, RAMS and safe systems of work.
- Comfortable working within a shift environment where uptime, safety and resilience are critical.
Up to £60,000 basic salary + comprehensive benefits package
