As a Mechanical Engineer in our Tunnel Ventilation team based in Croydon, you will be working on a wide range of projects that help create safer, more sustainable transport infrastructure. You will contribute to the design of ventilation systems for road, rail, metro and cable tunnels, developing solutions for smoke control, pollution management, cooling and pressure relief. Applying principles of fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, heat transfer and aerodynamics, you could help transform fundamental fire and life safety requirements into safe operating conditions for tunnel users.

Working alongside experienced engineers, you will undertake engineering calculations and numerical 1D simulations to understand airflow behaviour, temperature distribution, pressure changes and smoke movement within complex underground environments. You will support the development of innovative concept designs into detailed equipment layouts and system operating strategies, helping to ensure tunnel systems operate safely and efficiently.

Track Engineering encompasses a diverse skillset to ensure we provide a track asset that meets key performance criteria, including desired train speeds and journey times whilst ensuring ride quality for passengers. As a Track Engineer you will be involved in a wide range of activities including, but not limited to, track alignment design, corridor modelling, gauging assessments, small project management/design management roles, and buffer stop risk assessments.

Your role will include developing track alignment designs at both feasibility and detailed design stages for clients such as Network Rail, East West Rail, and contractors involved in smaller design-and-build projects, producing technical drawings, 3D models and more. You'll have the opportunity to work in a team across the country and beyond, whilst also working towards becoming a Chartered Engineer.

As part of the Rail Division, you will also have the opportunity to rotate into other disciplines, typically two six-month placements, before returning to Track to complete your graduate scheme. Other disciplines include Stations & Civils, Signalling & Operations, Overhead Contact Systems, Rolling Stock and more, offering a well-rounded foundation in railway engineering.

To be eligible for this opportunity, you will haveless than 12 months’ relevant experience(excluding placements) and have a bachelors / masters d egree (obtained no earlier than 2025) or expected to achieve one of the following degree disciplines:
