Schedule dependent upon assigned classes. Salaries are dependent upon education and semesters taught at MCC per theMCC Adjunct Faculty Agreement 26/27 - 27/28.pdf. This position will be instructing in-person within the McHenry County Correctional Facility, in the Spring 2026 semester. Working schedule is Monday/Wednesdays from 8:30am - 10:30am and will be a total of four contact hours.
Position SummaryInstruct students in either ABE, ASE, HSE, Bridge, or ICAPS. MCC instructors are higher-education professionals who champion student learning. They engage and inspire students, applying innovative teaching and learning pedagogies in instruction. They assess student learning to ensure students success, staying abreast of trends in the discipline. Our instructors collaborate within the College as discipline experts, helping the College reach its strategic goals through active participation in college committees and by promoting the College to future students throughout our community.
McHenryCounty Correctional Facility Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
- Teach courses as assigned by the College in a county correctional facility
- Develop syllabus using MCC syllabus template
- Cover all material in depth and scope as described in the course syllabus
- Incorporate the ABE/ASE Content Standards into instruction
- Maintain and submit accurate student and course-related paperwork and data needed for College and grant purposes in a timely fashion
- Document and report attendance daily and maintain and submit accurate attendance records weekly
- Actively work to maintain student retention
- Submit grade reports electronically by the required date
- Utilize a variety of teaching styles to satisfy the different learning styles of students
- Responsible for implementing current HSE (Reading and Math), Bridge, and ICAPS curricula
- Comply with grant requirements:
- Create and submit a professional development plan annually and provide verification of completion
- Participate in (12) twelve hours of approved, required professional development each fiscal year
- Complete all required professional development trainings
- Conduct regular student assessments
- Utilize computer-based instruction and databases when necessary
- Work collaboratively with others (e.g. colleagues, stakeholders, vendors) to accomplish functions and responsibilities
- Communicate and collaborate with the correctional facility officers and staff, adhering to the facility's policies and procedures
- Teach the assigned class in accordance with the learning objectives and Concourse syllabus using instructional strategies to engage students
- Develop and manage working syllabus, course materials, and assignments
- Provide feedback and evaluate students' performance throughout the learning process which could involve being available for student conferences either before or after class, and by College email if necessary
- Maintain and submit class syllabus, grades and attendance records, and required course related data
- Use educational technology (i.e. course management platform such as Canvas)
- Assess student learning and submit required reports of assessment results
- Maintain currency in professional field
- Work cooperatively within the department, the division, and throughout the College in striving for educational excellence
- Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field from a regionally accredited institution (e.g., English, TESOL, linguistics, mathematics, reading)
- One year teaching or training experience preferably with adult learners
- Familiarity with computer technology and Microsoft Office including Outlook
- Commitment to the mission of the community college, and to teaching and motivating community college students in ways appropriate to their diverse backgrounds and learning styles
- Background Check From McHenry County Correctional Facility
- Upon Arrival to the facility, you'll check-in with the Corrections Officer
- Electronics and personal belongings are left in a locked locker prior to going through security
- Master's degree in TESOL, Linguistics, ESL, Reading, Math or Adult Education or related field
- Certification in Adult Education, TESOL, K-12, or Special Education
- Three years of experience teaching adults in ABE or ASE Experience using computer programs (e.g. DAISI, Colleague, I-Pathways, Burlington English, Aztec, and Essential Ed)
- Experience teaching a diverse student population and adult students
- Experience teaching in a correctional facility
