School Social Worker - Part Time (Temporary)

Temporary position ending May 21, 2026.

The School Social Worker will provide services within the schools to facilitate the growth and development of all students. Responsibilities include providing services to and on behalf of students whose educational and/or psychosocial development is restricted due to social, emotional, and/or behavioral considerations, family circumstances, or environmental problems.

• Consult and collaborate with staff and parents about program development, prevention measures, early interventions, and assessment of students’ difficulties, community resources and outside therapies.
• Serve as a contributing member on building and district level teams (e.g. crisis team, problem‑solving/RtI teams, student services building teams, grade level teams, PBIS, program team meetings, department meetings).
• Complete valid social/emotional adaptive assessments, interpret student information for a variety of learning concerns, and communicate in written and verbal formats student needs in understandable terms for staff and parents.
• Provide individual counseling and/or group counseling with students to help solve problems or develop functional skills related to the learning environment utilizing different rated goals for student needs.
• Maintain current with research findings, knowledge of child development, cultural influences, economical influences and practices relevant to the area of social work and education.
• In cooperation with other building staff, plan and conduct in‑service presentations, staff trainings, newsletters for teachers, parents, administrators, or community groups to enhance understanding of and services for the educational and social/emotional development of children.
• Support staff and parents in education to assist parents in understanding their children’s special needs, to provide information on child development, or to address other issues of individual or common parent interest/concern.
• Serve as a liaison between the community and school.
• Maintain familiarity with legal mandates/laws and ethical standards that influence professional responsibilities.
• Maintain paperwork that includes goal writing, goal updates, behavior plans, FBA/BIP’s, social stories and observations.
• Establish a culture for positive school climate by demonstrating respect and rapport with staff, parent/guardians, students and community stakeholders.
• Assist with referral and/or maintaining communication with community or private agencies for further evaluation, treatment, or services when needed.
• Participate on the building’s crisis intervention team for individual and/or school‑wide crisis.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Valid Illinois Professional Educator License.
• School Social Work endorsement.
• Master’s Degree in Social Work, or equivalent.
• Minimum of 2 years school social work experience preferred.
• Effective positive interpersonal communication skills.
• Fluid report writing ability.
• Knowledge of the policies and procedures involving special education law.
• LSW within 2 years of employment.

• Demonstrate high levels of flexibility, interpersonal skills, articulation, concentration, confidentiality and organization.
• Physical requirements include sitting, standing, bending, walking, and lifting equipment or materials.
