Instrumental Music (Band) Teacher (Temporary March-May)

Crystal Lake School District 47 has an opening for an Instrumental Music (Band) Teacher. This is a temporary position that will begin on March 9, and will end on May 21. This position will be based at West, Glacier Ridge, and Indian Prairie Elementary Schools. Responsibilities include providing a well rounded instrumental music education for students at the middle school and beginning band levels at the elementary school level.

• Instructs an age/ability level appropriate instrumental music curriculum as adopted by the Board of Education for both middle school and elementary school
• Integrates essential and advanced skills in playing techniques for all types of band instruments at the middle school and beginning band levels
• Provides full band rehearsals and small group instruction in accordance with the time allotted in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student
• Will be responsible for a middle school band. This will include full band rehearsal and small group lessons
• Will be responsible for multiple elementary school beginning bands. This will include full band rehearsals and small group lessons
• Instructs students in state mandated goals of music education as specified
• Plans a well-balanced music program
• Works with district music coordinator for scheduling performances
• Organizes daily class time so preparation, rehearsal and small group lessons can be accomplished within the allotted time
• Instructs students in citizenship and procedures of the school district
• May be responsible for various festivals and music competitions as directly by the Board of Education
• Tracks and maintains school inventory
• Maintains balanced budgets
• Responsible for repair and replacement of school instruments
• Maintains and updates all classroom records
• Coordinates with other performing arts instructors a proper performance schedule of events in each school

• Valid Illinois Professional Educator License
• Elementary Music endorsement
• Teaching experience preferred
• Able to demonstrate outstanding conducting abilities
• Must have an excellent understanding of proper playing techniques for all instruments and be able to teach those techniques to all levels of students
• Able to communicate effectively with parents and students

• Demonstrate high levels of flexibility, have excellent interpersonal communication skills, articulation, creativity, organizational skills, confidentiality, maintain a positive attitude and cooperativeness
• Physical requirements include, sitting, standing, bending, walking, and lifting equipment and materials
• High level of flexibility, articulation, concentration, and confidentially
