Position Summary
The Dean is the front‑line student success champion supporting students and faculty within an academic division. The Dean leads the development, implementation, and assessment of courses and academic programs designed to serve students, aligns the division with the College‑wide strategic plan, and encourages innovation and collaboration with faculty and other College areas.
Reports To: Vice President of Academic Affairs/Chief Academic Officer (CAO)
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities- Provide leadership in the development, implementation, evaluation and revision of academic programs and courses in collaboration with faculty and staff.
- Manage course offerings to allow students to achieve their academic goals in a timely fashion in various instructional modalities.
- Ensure effective use of technology and best practices in learning and teaching.
- Make data‑informed decisions and recommendations to the CAO regarding hiring, scheduling, budgeting, and equipment.
- Recruit, supervise, and evaluate all division employees, including full‑time and adjunct faculty, and staff.
- Champion and support college and divisional initiatives including community and industry outreach, career readiness, student success, and retention initiatives.
- Develop and support the College and division’s enrollment goals.
- Develop the annual divisional and departmental budgets and adhere to College purchasing and accounting processes.
- Build and maintain partnerships among faculty, staff, administration, and external stakeholders.
- Ensure that active and qualified advisory boards exist for career programs in the division.
- Ensure that artifacts and reports are submitted as required for accreditation.
- Partner with the Curriculum Coordinator and Executive Director of the University Center to maintain articulation agreements with four‑year colleges.
- Provide administration of appropriate grants to support program development, equipment, and students.
- Act as liaison with state committees, departments, agencies, and organizations relative to the division’s programs.
- Serve on various College committees and shared governance activities.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Lead management of the Foglia Center for Advanced Technology and Innovation programs.
- Partner with faculty on research, recommendation, and implementation of new and innovative technology and equipment.
- Work with faculty and Career Services to include industry‑supported work‑based learning initiatives.
- Assume additional duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.
- Appropriate qualifications from a regionally accredited institution to teach in one of the division’s career or technical disciplines, or transfer disciplines.
- Evidence of increasing levels of administrative responsibilities.
- Experience with employee evaluation.
- Two years of leadership experience either in directly managing employees or in a project management role.
- Degree from a regionally accredited institution.
- Three years teaching experience at the community college level.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work effectively with faculty, students, staff, and administrators.
- Ability to organize work around broad organizational goals and processes.
- Strategic planning ability and experience.
- Ability to work in a dynamic environment and be responsive to changing priorities.
- Strong supervisory skills.
- Ability to work independently yet have a strong team orientation.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
