Our instructors collaborate within the College as discipline experts, helping the College reach its strategic goals through active participation in college committees and by promoting the College to future students throughout our community.
The Instructor of Music (Choral Activities and Voice) is responsible for providing high-quality instruction in voice, music theory, and related music courses while directing and developing the College's choral ensembles. This position promotes student success through excellence in teaching, recruiting, mentoring, performance preparation, and community engagement. The Instructor serves as a collaborative member of the Music Department and contributes to curriculum development, assessment initiatives, student recruitment and retention efforts, and institutional service.
The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in musicianship, vocal and choral pedagogy, conducting, and student-centered instruction. The position champions relationships with local schools, community music organizations, and prospective students to support the growth and success of the music program.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:- Be available to teach in-person courses as scheduled.
- Assist in curriculum development through preparation of additional courses, seminars, or labs consistent with the needs of the college and the community.
- Participate as a faculty member in college governance, advisement of students, on college committees, and in continuing professional development.
- Provide appropriate cooperative assistance to the faculty members of the Music Department, within the Arts and Humanities Division and the faculty and staff at large in striving for educational excellence.
- Participation in assessment of learning at the classroom, course, departmental, and college level.
- Direct and conduct College choral ensembles, which include the Concert Choir and Chamber Singers, and could include other vocal ensembles.
- Teach voice to a diverse population of students with varying musical abilities.
- May teach music theory, aural skills, and other music courses as assigned.
- Select appropriate repertoire representing diverse musical styles, cultures, and historical periods.
- Prepare and direct public performances, concerts, and special events.
- Collaborate with theatre, instrumental music, and other performing arts faculty on interdisciplinary performances and productions.
- Maintain the choral music inventory, equipment, and performance resources.
- Build and maintain partnerships with K–12 music educators, school districts, community organizations, and arts organizations.
- Recruit prospective students for the music program through visits to area schools, community events, festivals, and related activities.
- Promote concerts, performances, and music program opportunities within the College and broader community.
- Travel locally for recruitment and community engagement activities.
- Participate in concerts, commencement exercises, and other institutional events is expected.
- Master's degree in Music:
Choral Conducting, Music Education, Vocal Performance, or a closely related field. - Demonstrated expertise in choral conducting and vocal pedagogy.
- Experience directing choral ensembles and preparing students for public performance.
- Ability to teach students with varying levels of musical preparation and experience.
