- 7‑Bed Emergency Department (plus a dedicated triage area)
- Awaiting EDAP (Emergency Department Approved for Pediatrics) Designation (scheduled for this fall)
- Awaiting ASRH (Acute Stroke Ready Hospital) Designation
- 11 Inpatient Rooms + 2 ICU Rooms
- 4 Operating Rooms (ORs)
- Hospitalists On‑Site 24/7 – Continuous inpatient care presence
- Emergency Physicians On‑Site 24/7
- Leadership Support:
Nurse leaders on‑site Monday‑Friday during business hours. RN House Coordinators covering nights, weekends, and leadership gaps.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Handles the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. Has an understanding of the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon. Ensures quality patient care during the operative procedure and maintains the sterile field vigilantly.
- Assists the surgical team before, during, and after surgery by performing the following duties:
- Checks instruments, supplies, and equipment needed for surgical procedures.
- Scrubs, gowns, gloves, and sets up sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment, medication, and solutions needed for each procedure.
- Assists with patient placement and positioning on the table. Assists in draping the sterile field according to procedure and physician preference.
- Performs appropriate counts for sponges, needles, and instruments with circulator according to policy before incision is closed.
- Gowns and gloves surgeon and assistants. Creates and maintains sterile field. Maintains highest standard of sterile technique during procedure.
- Passes instruments, etc., to surgeon during procedure. May sponge operative site, hold retractors, cut suture, and cauterize previously clamped vessels as directed by surgeon. Prepares sterile dressings. If applicable and at the direction of the surgeon, applies and secures dressings.
- Assists other members of the team with cleaning the operating room after each procedure. Assists in prepping the room for the next patient.
- Participates in department performance improvement activities.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
- Graduate of a CAAHEP‑accredited Surgical Technology program required. OR program currently participating in accreditation process.
- Less than 1 year experience as a Surgical Scrub technologist.
- Certified Surgical Technologist through NBSTSA preferred; required if the program is not accredited but currently participating in accreditation process.
- Approved CPR or BLS certification required within 90 days (other certifications per unit requirements: ACLS, PALS, PEARS, NRP).
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- Occupational Exposure Category A – All partners in the specified job classification have occupational exposure.
- Employee may be exposed to cold, hot, or wet conditions, fluoroscopic radiation, laser light, surgical smoke, and the risk of blood borne pathogens.
- Required personal protection equipment (PPE) includes eye and face protection, impervious gown, shoe covers, head cover, gloves, and lead apron.
The special physical demands are considered essential job functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations. The employee regularly uses hands to finger, handle, or feel; reaches with hands and arms; talks or hears. The employee frequently stands and walks; occasionally sits, stoops, kneels, crouches, or smells. The employee regularly lifts, moves up to 25 pounds and occasionally lifts, moves up to 50 pounds.
Visual requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
