JobPurpose and Summary
Within our retail locations, staff pharmacists play a critical role in cultivating a culture of excellence, acting as role models and delivering safe, compassionate care. As a staff pharmacist you support the Pharmacy Manager, oversee pharmacy operations, and help ensure the pharmacy provides exceptional patient experiences.
Responsibilities- Living our purpose by helping to manage and improve patient health through safe and appropriate dispensing, counseling, and immunizing practices.
- Taking direction from the Pharmacy Manager and overseeing the pharmacy as their proxy during bench shifts, strengthening performance measures through coaching.
- Assuming the Pharmacy Manager’s day‑to‑day duties when serving as the only or primary pharmacist‑on‑duty.
- Supporting safe and accurate prescription fulfillment by following pharmacy workflow procedures and ensuring the safety guardrails are used at every workstation.
- Contributing to positive patient experiences by showing empathy, coaching the team to provide compassionate care, collaborating with the patient’s total healthcare team, and proactively resolving insurance or medication issues.
- Proactively offering and delivering immunizations to keep patients healthy; engaging and supporting Pharmacy Technicians to learn to immunize.
- Supporting effective pharmacy inventory management, focusing on cold‑chain product protection.
- Partnering with the Pharmacy Manager to ensure pharmacy operations are compliant with state Board of Pharmacy regulations, escalating issues to the Pharmacy Manager or Rx DL as needed.
- Remaining flexible for scheduling and business needs, supporting the Pharmacy Manager in writing the schedule when directed.
- Maintaining relevant clinical and technical skills, completing required trainings and CMEs, and seeking opportunities to expand knowledge.
- Supporting access to care and improving patient outcomes through pharmacist‑delivered clinical care such as testing and prescribing services (e.g., COVID/Flu, hormonal contraception) where permissible.
- Understanding and complying with all relevant federal and state laws, regulations, professional standards, and ethical principles; complying with CVS Health policies and procedures, controlled substance dispensing, record‑keeping, and privacy/security protocols.
- Active Pharmacist License in the state where the store is located.
- Active National Provider Identifier (NPI).
- Not on the DEA Excluded Parties list.
- Regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends.
- Ability to complete required training within designated timeframe.
- Attention and focus – ability to concentrate on a task and pivot quickly, confirm prescription accuracy.
- Customer service and team orientation – actively help people in a friendly manner.
- Communication skills – use verbal and written communication, listen actively.
- Mathematical reasoning – use math to solve dispensing problems.
- Issue resolution – identify challenging interactions and choose the best course of action.
- Physical demands – mobility, standing, lifting, reaching, typing, and other duties as required.
- Additional tasks directed by Supervisor or Manager.
- 1–2 years of related work experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting.
- Ability to work in other locations across the market as business needs require.
