Overview
The Emergency Services Dispatcher must be able to function in a sustained stressful environment with the ability to interpret and prioritize incoming and outgoing information for both Police and Fire Departments.
This is an at will, civilian position within the Cudahy Police Department. Under general direction of the Shift Supervisor, Emergency Services Dispatchers are responsible for interpreting and prioritizing all incoming and outgoing information by radio, phone, verbal or written communications in police, fire and ambulance traffic in emergency and non-emergency situations. Include, but are not limited to, the following:
Responsibilities
Ability to function in a sustained stressful environment and to maintain composure under stressful situations.Ability to interpret and prioritize incoming and outgoing information by radio, phone, verbal or written communications in police, fire and ambulance traffic in emergency and non-emergency situations.Ability to monitor multiple conversations and retain key information in emergency and non-emergency situations for both Police and Fire Departments.Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously.Ability to operate a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) Pro-Phoenix System.Ability to read maps and provide accurate directions.Female dispatchers perform matron duties searching and checking on female prisoners and caring for prisoners' children.Male dispatchers perform duties of checking prisoners and caring for prisoners' children.Operate two-way multi-channel communications equipment.Capable of typing reports using a computer and dictation equipment.Monitor camera, video and voice equipment in jail, other areas around the station, City Hall and DPW areas.Monitor alarm panels of various types.Answer requests for aid and information.Process payments for parking permits, report copies, fingerprints, K-9 donations, and collection of fines and bail.Obtain and maintain certification from the State of Wisconsin in use of the TIME terminal CIB/NCIC (Basic) for validations and wanted entries to meet the needs of the Department.Operate a paging system for the City.Operate a State/Nationwide teletype computer system.Knowledge of Windows environment computer system.Maintain a positive work attitude toward duties performed and fellow employees.Regular, prompt and consistent attendance as scheduled or directed.Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.Education and/or Experience
High School Graduate or its equivalent.Prior dispatch experience preferred.Prior experience with Pro-Phoenix software a plus.Business courses pertaining to typing/keyboarding, filing and windows based computer software.PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS
