Must have or be able to obtain a current Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, and First Aid Certifications (TRAINING PROVIDED). Must be able to pass the pre‑employment practical skills test. Must be self‑motivated with the ability to work without supervision. Must be able to react quickly and calmly in an emergency. Must have excellent customer service skills, have the ability to work flexible shifts throughout the summer, and create a safe and enjoyable environment while preventing and responding to emergencies.

Possess a valid driver’s license. Must meet Park Board employment and physical standards, which includes a background check as well as drug and alcohol screening. Experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and aptitude to perform the defined duties.

Cullman Parks, Recreation, & Sports Tourism is dedicated to improving quality of life through exceptional parks, facilities, events, and recreational opportunities for all.

• Maintains constant surveillance of patrons in the facility; acts immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of emergency.
• Provides emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services.
• Presents professional appearance and attitude at all times.
• Maintains a high standard of customer service.
• Performs various maintenance duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe facility.
• Prepares and maintains appropriate activity reports.
• Attends all meetings as required by supervisors.
• Maintains professional internal and external relationships in keeping with CPRST core values.
• Acts as a team member with other Parks and Recreation Administrators, embracing and supporting the vision and mission of the CPRST Board of Directors and the City of Cullman.
• Exhibits a high level of professionalism and ethics, working amicably with the Park Board, the Executive Director, Administrators, Personnel, and Community.
• Exhibits proficiency in written and oral communication.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisors.

Assigned work areas are both indoors and outdoors. Work requires the lifeguard to routinely be outside in various weather conditions with occasional exposure to adverse weather conditions.

Lifeguards must be in good physical shape and able to frequently walk, climb, swim, and be in hot sun for extended amounts of time. All lifeguards are required to pass physical skills evaluation as stipulated by the Aquatics Director.
