Main duties of the jobAs our Practice Nurse you’ll play a key role in delivering high quality nursing care and health promotion to our diverse patient population. You’ll work alongside a multidisciplinary team providing the following:
- Wound care, dressings, and general treatment room skills
- Urinalysis
- Contraceptive advice, family planning, sexual health
- Cytology
- Maintaining registers
- Ear syringing
- ECG
- BT, BP, height/weight
- Diet and lifestyle advice
- Immunisations (childhood, flu, pneumonia, pertussis, shingles, covid etc)
- Injections (B12, Decapeptyl, Zoladex and Depo etc)
- Travel vaccinations (only NHS)
Chronic Disease Management skills will include some or all of the following (this list is not exhaustive):
- Mental health
- Diabetes
- Asthma/COPD
Bramblehaies Surgery, in Cullompton, is a busy growing semi‑rural training practice in the heart of Devon caring for a population of 7,668 patients, providing high standards of care (CQC rating of Good) from a modern, purpose‑built building.
Our multidisciplinary team includes:
- Four GP partners
- One Clinical Pharmacist and Pharmacy Tech
- Three Practice Nurses
- Three HCAs

Job responsibilities- Assess, plan, develop, implement and evaluate treatment programmes that promote health and well‑being for patients with known long‑term conditions.
- Work with other health care professionals to monitor, manage and treat long‑term conditions, including non‑drug‑based treatment methods using a management plan, and in line with national and local policies and practice needs.
- Review medication for therapeutic effectiveness, appropriate to patient needs and in accordance with evidence‑based practice and national and local practice protocols with support from NMP or GP.
- Work with patients in order to support adherence to prescribed treatments.
- Support and manage health needs of women presenting for cervical cytology consultations.
- Implement and participate in vaccination and immunisation programmes for both adults and children.
- Advise, support and administer vaccinations where appropriate for patients travelling abroad.
- Provide wound care support when necessary.
- Working independently as well as in a team environment
- Experience of infection prevention and control measures
- Experience of chronic disease management
- Experience of working as a nurse in an acute, community or practice environment
- Formal Nursing Qualification
- Registration with NMC
- Post graduate diploma or degree in a long term condition
- Wound care
- Venepuncture
- ECGs
- Requesting pathology tests and advising patients accordingly
- Immunisations (routine, childhood)
- Women's health
- Broad knowledge of clinical governance
- Understanding of infection prevention and control measures
- Understanding the requirement for PGDs, PSDs and associated policy
- Long term condition skills and knowledge
- Knowledge of public health issues in the local area
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
- Strong IT skills (competent with Office 365, email and use of internet as a resource)
- Clear, polite telephone manner
- Flexible and co‑operative
- Highly motivated, forward thinker
- Ability to work under pressure/in stressful situations and deal with the unexpected!
- Sensitive and empathetic in distressing situations
- Effective time management, punctual
