Position: Tesco Shift Leader - Days Superstore

Our Shift Leader rate of pay starts from £14.76 an hour; this increases to £15.97 for stores inside the M25. Additional payments may also apply depending on location.

It’s our policy to offer new colleagues a minimum of 16 guaranteed hours each week, but if you’d like to work fewer hours (to a minimum of 12) we have opportunities for this too.

The availability windows for the week are:

  • Monday: 13:00 - 22:00
  • Wednesday: 13:00 - 22:00
  • Thursday: 09:00 - 19:45
  • Friday: 09:00 - 22:00
  • Saturday: 09:00 - 22:00

We will schedule your contracted hours within these times and you’ll have three weeks’ notice of your shifts.

Responsibilities
  • Work in a fast‑paced retail environment, with bags of variety
  • Take ownership of running duty shifts, coordinating the team to deliver a clean, well‑stocked store that exceeds customer expectations
  • Be there for customers, listening and helping them leave with what they need
  • Look for ways to improve service, including coaching colleagues and giving feedback
  • Guide and support colleagues in‑store, ensuring it remains a safe place to work and shop
  • Maintain a great understanding of store performance and assist managers in delivering any actions that help improve operations
  • Lead from the front and set a great example for colleagues in everything you do
  • Coordinating the store team to deliver an easy, fuss‑free shopping experience for customers
  • Supporting your colleagues, ensuring they deliver daily priorities and take regular breaks
  • Opening and closing the store, completing duty cover and ensuring all decisions are right for everyone’s safety
  • Being the go‑to person for colleagues in the absence of a manager for day‑to‑day queries
  • Keeping the team well‑informed and up to speed on any communications, changes or updates
  • Following health and safety routines and procedures and ensuring colleagues do the same
  • Recognising and celebrating colleagues who provide great service
Qualifications
  • Must be 18 or over
  • Great role model with thoughtful customer service
  • Strong relationships with colleagues and a positive inclusive team atmosphere
  • Clear communicator, comfortable using a variety of methods to keep the team informed
  • Comfortable taking the lead and overseeing the store in the absence of a manager
  • Good decision maker, flexible in thinking and handling change
  • Motivating and inspiring the team to deliver beyond expectations
  • Curious, always on the lookout for ideas to serve customers, communities and the planet better each day
