Position: School Psychologist, 2025-2026 School Year

JOB SUMMARY

Perform full-range, comprehensive school psychological services to improve developmental, academic, and life outcomes for students ages 2 through 21, and to promote increased capacity of school/family/community systems to support achievement and social-emotional functioning of youth.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Facilitating team problem-solving process to benefit students and the educational process (e.g., STRIDES, FBA/BIP meetings, etc.);
  • Selecting, administering, scoring, and interpreting standardized, criterion-referenced, projective, and/or curriculum-based instruments for purposes of multi-disciplinary evaluation of students;
  • Identifying students for counseling services and delivering counseling services appropriate to students’ needs; maintaining schedules and procedures pertinent to students’ IEP goals, when appropriate;
  • Assisting with conducting functional behavior assessments for the purpose of developing behavior support plans; collaborating with teachers and parents to support improved behavioral functioning of students;
  • Perform evaluations for special education (test students and write reports with results of testing);
  • Attend student study and eligibility meetings;
  • Provide consultation for staff, parents, and students;
  • Attend academic and behavior data meetings;
  • Providing indirect services to students by working to increase the professional and personal competency levels of others via training/inservice activities; serving the community in a professional capacity as committee member, speaker, consultant; and
  • Performs other assigned;
  • Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK
  • Hold state licensure with endorsement in School Psychology (minimum Master’s degree, with successful supervised internship experience);
  • Prefer NCSP (Nationally Certified School Psychologist) credential;
  • Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience.

  • Ability to communicate openly and effectively with students, parents, community patrons, staff, and administration as a positive representative of Culpeper County School system.
  • Ability to maintain good working relationships with all employees and the public.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work is typically performed in the central office and throughout the division: frequent walking, standing, stooping, lifting, up to approximately 40 pounds, and occasional lifting of equipment weighing up to approximately 50 pounds may be required. Other limited physical activities are required. Travel to schools throughout the division and central office is required. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word;

hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work environment exposes the employee to inside and outside environmental conditions. Regular contact with staff members, administrators, and parents is required. Contact with parents by phone and in person is necessary.

EVALUATION

The supervisor will evaluate performance on the ability and effectiveness in carrying out the above responsibilities.
