Test Engineering Manager
Location: Culpeper, VA

Reporting to the Manager, Test Engineering, this position will plan, organize, and technically direct test engineering and operations activities and staff.

- Direct-connect ramjet/scramjet testing
- Altitude simulation test firings
- Case proof and burst pressure testing
- Case structural loads testing
- Aero‑heat material testing
- Dynamic and environmental testing
- Provide engineering analysis and oversight of product test requirements and performance in a safe, environmentally sound, secure, cost‑effective and timely manner.
- Plan and conduct all testing, including proposal, test procedure, test plan preparation, test conduct, and data review.
- Perform critical reviews to assure that designs, tests, and experiments are properly performed to attain test objectives.
- Maintain functional integrity in the verification of hardware and/or software performance.
- Act as an advisor on all projects and tasks assigned to the organizational group, with results typically accomplished through experienced, exempt employees.
- Supervise Test Engineers, which may include Electrical/Instrumentation/Control (ICE) Engineers or Mechanical Test Engineers, depending on your expertise and qualifications.
- ICE Engineers: Provide technical and operational support for test activities, including selection, procurement, calibration, and installation of instrumentation; plan, integrate, and support special electrical test equipment; develop, implement, and maintain facility and test‑article control software and hardware.
- Mechanical Test Engineers: Work with customers, program managers, and project engineers to define test objectives and identify and select test methods and instrumentation; create plans and procedures for safely conducting these tests, utilizing the four existing test facilities and equipment, and/or designing new tools or techniques.
- Assist direct reports in meeting established schedules and resolving complex technical or operational problems.
- Supervise engineering or analysis activities, developing new concepts, methods, or technologies.
- Provide direction to direct‑report engineering staff based on general policies and management guidance; recommend modifications to operating policies; interpret and execute policies affecting direct‑report organizational groups.
- Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate discipline and nine (9) years of progressively responsible experience in a directly related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated leadership skills, including the ability to plan, organize, coordinate, direct, and control the activities of an assigned organization.
- Experience in one or multiple areas of Electrical, Instrumentation, Control, or Mechanical Test Engineering.
