Job SummaryPerforms and/or assists in transporting patients of all ages from UVA Health Northern VA & Culpeper to other health care facilities, nursing care facilities, or residences with qualified personnel as mandated by the patient’s condition. The incumbent may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned.
Responsibilities- Transport patients of all ages according to patient condition and protocol.
- Assist qualified personnel during patient transport.
- Maintain equipment and vehicle in good working condition.
- Ensure patient safety and comfort during transport.
- Communicate patient status to receiving facilities.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
- High School Diploma or GED (required).
- 1 year of related work experience preferred.
- Actively obtained EMT-Basic certification, Emergency Vehicle Operators Course (EVOC), valid driver’s license with acceptable DMV record, and AHA BLS.
- Remain calm and organized in emergent situations.
- Available for rotating shifts as required.
- Show keen sense of responsibility, ability to make decisions, and work independently.
- Good judgment.
- Basic computer knowledge.
- Communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Interact effectively with the public.
- Work six shifts per six‑week schedule, including at least two weekend shifts.
- Work two holidays annually (New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Day); at least one end‑of‑year holiday.
Medium to heavy physical demand requiring constant sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, and frequent repetitive body movements. Ability to lift/push/pull up to 100 lbs occasionally. For any weight over 35 lbs, use Safe Handling Equipment. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills; attention to detail and ability to write legibly.
Other- May require safety equipment such as HEPA mask for infection prevention.
- On‑call responsibilities as directed.
- Ability to travel between campus buildings, remote facilities, and out of town as needed.
