Job SummaryThe Registered Nurse serves as a leader of the healthcare team at UVA Health Northern VA & Culpeper by establishing an authentic personalized relationship with the patient and their chosen support system, collaborating with physicians and other team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate an individualized plan of care that promotes optimal health. The Registered Nurse utilizes best scientific evidence and compassion to assist the patient in navigating their health journey.
The Registered Nurse accepts responsibility, authority, and accountability for management and provision of care in accordance with the current policies and procedures.
- OR Nurse: Performs the circulating nurse's functions adhering to approved operating room procedures for the scheduled procedure. Prepares operating room, assembles and provides equipment, assists anesthesia staff, monitors compliance with aseptic technique, assists with operative site confirmation, and documents records.
- Preadmission RN: Provides supervisory activities, coordinates personnel assignments, assists in patient care activities, participates in primary care, enforces nursing practice standards, implements patient education, and conducts preoperative assessments.
- PACU RN: Performs preoperative interview and assessment, provides instruction, documents care, monitors postoperative status, prepares patient for discharge, and performs postoperative phone follow‑up.
- Acts with patient advocacy when implementing the interdisciplinary plan of care.
- Patient Care: Collaborates with healthcare team to educate patient and support system; analyzes, modifies, and implements strategies; ensures completion of nursing interventions; prioritizes duties.
- Communication: Communicates individualized plan via SBARQ; documents information timely.
- Teamwork: Mentors and precepts; resolves conflicts; responds positively to feedback.
- Medical Knowledge: Operates equipment, performs routine nursing care, assists in critical situations, administers medication, and transports patients.
Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing required. 4‑Year/Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
Experience: 1 year of relevant experience preferred; refer to Life Support Training Policy for additional details.
Licensure: Current RN licensure in applicable state required. CPI certification within three months of hire required for certain units. Refresher course required if license inactive for five years or more.
Required Skills: Basic nursing skills, ability to assume charge, multitask and prioritize, administer medication with five rights, verbal and written communication, basic computer knowledge, and ability to care for all patient populations.
Physical DemandsWork requires constant standing, frequent walking, bending/stooping, lifting/pushing/pulling up to 100 lbs. Use Safe Handling Equipment for weights over 35 lbs. The description may be amended at discretion of UVA Health Northern VA & Culpeper.
