Machine Design Engineer

$100000 - $130000 per year | Culver City, CA | On-site | Permanent

A bit about us:

We are an established manufacturer and distributor of personal protective equipment, including earplugs, respirators, masks, and safety glasses. Our engineering team supports the development of new products and the equipment and processes needed to manufacture them.

We're seeking a hands-on Machine Design Engineer to design tooling, machinery, and production floor layouts that support new and existing products. You'll take equipment projects from concept and Solid Works design through fabrication, debugging, testing, and installation, working closely with machinists, technicians, controls engineers, production teams, and outside vendors.

Why join us?

The base salary range is $100,000-$130,000, depending on experience, skills, and qualifications. The role is also eligible for a discretionary bonus. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, a 401(k) plan, and paid time off.

Job Details What You’ll Do
  • Design custom automated assembly equipment, production stations, fixtures, guards, and robot grippers.
  • Develop equipment and tooling to bring new products and designs into production.
  • Troubleshoot and improve existing equipment to reduce downtime, waste, and labor.
  • Select and size mechanical and pneumatic components, including actuators, sensors, vacuum systems, bearings, shafts, and linkages.
  • Create detailed part and assembly drawings, bills of materials, and technical procedures in Solid Works.
  • Apply GD&T and design-for-manufacturing principles to support fabrication, assembly, and maintenance.
  • Coordinate with vendors and contractors on equipment, parts, and fabrication.
  • Manage multiple projects, track schedules, and support equipment start-ups and operator training.
What You’ll Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • At least five years of machine design and automation experience, including automated assembly or production machinery that was built and put into production.
  • Strong Solid Works skills, including modeling large machine assemblies and producing detailed drawings.
  • Experience troubleshooting and improving production equipment.
  • Familiarity with machine shop and fabrication processes, including machining, welding, and assembly.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical, pneumatic, and electrical systems, along with automation concepts such as PLCs, sensors, and motion control.
  • Strong project management, analytical, communication, and documentation skills.
Work Environment and Travel

This is an on-site role with time split between design work and the production floor and machine shop. The position involves standing and walking for extended periods, handling parts and tools, and wearing required PPE in designated areas. Occasional travel typically less than 10% may be needed for supplier meetings, equipment buy-offs, factory audits, or trade shows.
