Job DescriptionThe Unit Secretary is responsible for coordinating and performing a broad range of clerical support functions in the nursing unit. Specific duties include performing reception functions, inventory and ordering of unit supplies, collecting and compiling patient data, and assembling and organizing medical records. The role coordinates and assists with patient access, nursing, and case management for patient admission and discharge processes.
Responsibilities- Accurately prepares correspondence, documents, forms, reports, and ad‑hoc projects in a timely manner. Establishes and maintains effective filing systems, provides excellent departmental telephone and reception coverage, and completes additional clerical duties as assigned. Ensures patient call lights are answered promptly and ensures HIPAA compliance.
- Engages in caring behaviors, takes conscious ownership of work, and takes proactive, deliberate, thoughtful actions. Demonstrates appropriate use of independent judgment and decision‑making.
- Effectively uses all applicable computer and office systems to coordinate documentation, data, and information for the shift to ensure timely communication and smooth operations. Ensures appropriate inventory of supplies, proper functioning of equipment, and a clean, clutter‑free, organized work area.
- High School Graduate or Equivalent
- Demonstrated customer service skills appropriate to the job
- AHA Basic Life Support certification
- Understanding of basic medical terminology
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
- Computer literacy and proficiency
- Hospital Fire and Life Safety Card (Los Angeles City Employees only)
- Bilingual skills to communicate effectively with patients and families
Min $21.00 – Max $28.21
