The Hyland Group of Companies is seeking a Senior Accountant to join our team at our Cumberland, BC office. Reporting to the VP of Operations and working closely with the President and Owner, this role is ideal for someone who excels at overseeing the high-level financial responsibilities of a manufacturing operation, while also being ready to roll up their sleeves and support the day-to-day accounting activities that keep our business running smoothly.

This position is required to be in the Cumberland office 5 days a week.

ABOUT

THE POSITION

The Senior Accountant will be responsible for all aspects of the accounting systems, reporting, policies and procedures as well as the day-to-day banking, insurance and human resources. Responsibilities are for Hyland Precast, Coast Hydro Excavating and T&R Contracting. Our work force is approximately 40 people.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Using the highest standards and practices to ensure policies, procedures and internal controls are in place for all companies
  • Oversee invoicing, collections, vendor payments, payroll, tax accounts, inventory management and capital assets
  • Review/approve payables, invoices, inventory counts from managers
  • Direct involvement with monthly journal entries, invoicing/collections, sorting out supplier issues, payment process and oversight on payroll
  • Support the operations through month-end including journal entries, standard reporting package, account reconciliations, accounting reports, KPI tracking
  • Preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements
  • Experience preparing annual budgets.
  • Resolving financial problems and analyzing profit loss
  • Increasing company revenues and boosting profits
  • Timely preparation of financial analysis including Monthly operating report analysis
  • Perform analytical support for operational costs and margin improvement
  • Lead and coordinate the Company’s annual operating budget and capital planning process
  • On-boarding, off-boarding staff, managing holiday schedule and manage benefits program
  • Coach/develop/mentor team members and administration staff
EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS
  • 5+ years of accounting experience
  • Hands on experience with SAGE (50) or equivalent a definite differentiator
  • Passion for working with people at all levels, both within the business and externally
  • Strong customer service mentality
  • Strong organizational skills
  • College degree or designation an asset, but not required
  • Experience working in a manufacturing, construction, real estate developers or related industries is preferred
  • Experience with financial statement preparation and analysis
  • Exposure to cost accounting
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
  • Salary: $80,000 annual based on experience
  • 2 to 3 weeks’ vacation depending on experience
